FAPSC Deans/Directors of Nursing Workshop

Audience: Nursing Program Deans and Directors.

Assessing Your Nursing Program - Do You Meet National Standards?

The presentation will include a discussion of professional standards for nursing education. A focus on self-review of individual programs will be included as well as a discussion of the requirements/expectations for nursing programs pursuing accreditation. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in dialogue related to curriculum, learning outcomes, faculty requirements, program outcomes, and resources.

Presenter

The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Sharon Tanner, former Chief Executive Officer for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). During her tenure as the CEO, Dr. Tanner was responsible for the accreditation of more than 1,500 nursing programs of all six (6) program types throughout the U S and internationally. She has also served as a faculty member and nurse administrator of nursing and allied health programs at the practical, diploma, associate, baccalaureate, and master's levels; in addition, she has served as an college administrator in both academics and student services.

Prior to assuming the role of CEO, she served a program evaluator and member of the Evaluation Review Panel for several years as well as a Board Member for NLNAC/ACEN. Dr. Tanner has expertise in nursing curriculum, program evaluation, student assessment, and faculty mentoring. She has published numerous articles related to nursing education as well as multiple manuscripts on topics such as leadership, quality initiatives, program review, and accreditation. She was also selected to serve on three (3) negotiated rule-making committees for the United States Department of Education as well as various other national task forces and committees for institutional and programmatic accreditation and higher education.
