The 2009 Legislative session has been remarkably successful for FAPSC!
Due to great bill sponsors and lots of teamwork, we were able to successfully lobby for passage of three key bills – all of them are now on their way to the Governor! We thank everyone who has worked with us this session, and think you will agree that your dues have been well spent when you review these bills. We will continue to work hard to ensure Gov. Charlie Crist views them favorably. And we hope you will encourage non-member schools in your area to join the cause. Together we DID make a difference!

Nursing – HB 1209: the bill cuts state regulation so our schools can produce more nurses for the state of Florida by providing quality nursing programs.
Sponsored by Rep. Denise Grimsley (R – Sebring) and Sen. Mike Haridopolos (R – Melbourne),
Prepaid – SB 606: the bill allows any school that is eligible to participate in federal Title IV programs to accept the Florida Prepaid benefit. Previously, only schools accredited by SACS or ACICS were eligible. Many schools – FAPSC members and non-members – will benefit from our efforts to pass this bill.
Sponsored by Sen. Steve Wise (R – Jacksonville) and Rep. Charles Van Zant (R – Palatka)
Study on Cost of Public v. Private Career Education - SB 1616: the study language found on line 184 of the bill requires a comparison of various costs and outcomes of specific career education programs offered by district tech centers, community colleges, and independent institutions. This study is an opportunity for our sector to use data to prove our value to students and the state.
Championed by Rep. Will Weatherford (R – Wesley Chapel), Rep. Seth McKeel (R – Lakeland) and Sen. Steve Oelrich (R – Gainesville)
