Over the past several years, FAPSC has made great strides in serving our members so you get a nice return on investment. We revamped our website so that you have information at your fingertips. In our “Members Only” center we have granted you access to tool kits such as a guide to hosting legislative visits, a media tool kit that will help you develop a fact sheet about your campus, sample press releases and ways to address the media. School and associate members also have access to FAPSC logos. Show your FAPSC pride by displaying our logo on your website or on your marketing materials. FAPSC will continue to keep adding these tool kits to our website and we encourage you to use them. If you have an idea for one please let me know. We are here because of you and we want you to continue to be members for many years to come.
FAPSC has dipped our toes into the social media pool but we can’t make the big leap unless we have our member support. I implore you to join our group on LinkedIN, and become our friend on Facebook. Oh yea, don’t forget to “Like” us too. Breaking News! FAPSC has just opened registration for you to sign up and play in our 3rd Annual Jay Lambeth Memoral Golf Tournament.
This year we are holding the tournament at the lush $150 million transformation legendary golf destination, the new Fairmont Turnberry Isle. It features a 64-foot waterfall - the largest in the state- and a beautiful course surrounded by colorful indigenous flora and tropical trees.

Central Florida Institute’s Success Training Empowerment Program (STEP) started off with a bang on 4/28/2011 with its first presentation on Financial Success presented by Fifth Third Bank. The session on Banking and Saving was focused on helping students at CFI make smart banking decisions and learn to develop effective saving habits for themselves and their families.
Shakila Ali, Assistant Vice President Affiliate Membership Banking Specialist for Fifth Third Bank presented an informative and interactive session with 2 groups of CFI students in the Medical Assistant and Dental Assistant programs at 2:45pm and 6:25pm on 4/28/2011. Fifth Third has been a partner of Central Florida Institute for the last 3 years and they were the first to answer when CFI asked for help to build the STEP Initiative. As always, Fifth Third Bank went above and beyond in partnering with CFI and the STEP Initiative.
CFI’S Success Training Empowerment Program or STEP is designed to provide CFI students, graduates, staff, faculty and the public at large with resource training and development in 5 areas called Success paths. Those areas cover Academic, Financial, Life, Health and Wellness and Career Success. We envision a network of businesses, agencies, organizations and individuals will be able to put forth their time and energy to building up our Central Florida community in partnership with CFI. Last Thursday’s presentation was simply “the first STEP”, we are excited about the sessions and we know that as we begin to implement STEP, the best is yet to come.

Each year FAPSC opens nominations to the general membership to honor colleagues in the career college sector. These awards are announced at our annual conference. Last year our conference was held in Hollywood, Florida on July 13-16, 2010. Since some of you did not get a chance to attend this event we will highlight an award winner each month in our e-Flash. This month we highlight FAPSC 2010 School Member of the Year Richard Covington, Central Florida Institute, Orlando campus.
Richard is a Region IV Co-Chair and helped implement the FAPSC Regional Structure. He has hosted numerous legislative visits on his campus.
He is the first to volunteer for FAPSC activities, from speaking at conference to working in the Membership Services booth in the exhibit hall!
Richard has actively participated in FAPSC Day in Tallahassee for several years. He serves as a mentor to many new schools and provides insight to the membership committee so FAPSC can provide innovative services to schools.

FAPSC launched an Admissions Training Course through our Online Training Center due to recent changes in rule 6E-1.0032 by The Commission for Independent Education requiring training for “all staff who recruit prospective students or who participate in the admission of prospective students, at the institution.” Click here to read what people are saying about this course.
Our online training center course CM201 - Admission Training Program, covers admissions requirements from catalog to enrollment. It provides admissions staff with regulatory requirements information to comply in all areas of their jobs. The course also shows participants how to learn the specifics about their institution's organizational structure, policies, procedures, educational programs, and services. Lastly, participants learn how to remain current with institutional and regulatory mandates.
This course requires a purchase of one enrollment key per person.

Dade Medical College welcomed U.S. Senator Bob Menendez to its Miami Campus
Dade Medical College recently welcomed U.S. Senator Bob Menendez from New Jersey to its Miami Campus. Senator Menendez toured the campus to see first-hand the quality of the education administered at Dade Medical College and how they address the needs of career college students. (Read More)
Former Florida State Representative Dave Murzin joins Smart Horizons Career Online Education as Community Outreach Representative
Dr. Howard Liebman, CEO/Superintendent of Pensacola-based Smart Horizons Career Online Education (SHCOE), has announced that former Florida State Representative Dave Murzin has joined the SHCOE staff as the company's new Community Outreach Representative. Murzin, a resident of Pensacola since 1978, served four terms as a member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing Florida's District 2 from 2002 to 2010. Prior to that, he served as Legislative Assistant to House Majority Leader Jerry Maygarden, 2001, and as Legislative Assistant to State Representative Jeff Miller, 1998-2001. (Read More)
