The private postsecondary education sector is changing rapidly. Federal and state agencies continuously revise and update their regulations to guide the daily operations of our sector. Because these changes can be rapid, extensive or slight, it is challenging to maintain accurate, up-to-date knowledge of the rules that guide every employee’s daily interactions. Being knowledgeable of the regulations that guide our sector must never be viewed as the responsibility of a compliance department of an organization, but rather, as the responsibility of every employee. Compliance isn’t just about following the rules; it’s about doing the right thing to serve students. Moreover, compliance isn’t a checklist, it’s a culture fostered through every employee’s understanding and implementation of the regulations that guide daily interactions. How can you ensure that you and your organization are a model of compliant interactions with students?
Whereas one may be able to research existing regulations, constantly monitor multiple regulatory agencies for updates, develop internal training programs for employees, and seek an expert for help in understanding and applying such regulations, this painstaking and perpetual task may not be very practical. Thus, consider educating your faculty and staff by having them take an online, self-paced course guided by an expert facilitator that covers compliant communications under the Federal Program Integrity Rules and relating Florida State regulations for the private postsecondary education sector. Completing the course offers 4 hours of continuing education and more importantly, peace of mind knowing your daily interactions with students are compliant. A certificate of completion is issued upon successfully passing all course requirements making it convenient to document the training and update employee files.

Presenters Julie Orloff and Sheri Leach provided a plethora of information on how to handle non-placed graduates, how to establish externships with employers and led a conversation regarding law interpretations centered on our industry.
There was a great dialogue between our panel of employers and attendees regarding how to develop relationships with employers. Our employer panel suggested the following:
1. Encourage employers to visit your campus when students are in their classrooms
2. Invite employers to speak with your students
3. Ask employers for their input when building curriculum
4. Continue to nurture that bond and relationship throughout the years
5. Get involved in your local workforce groups
