JAMES M. PATCH
Share |

Jim Patch was a stalwart member of the sector in Florida, serving for thirty-five years in academics and management for Jones College in Jacksonville. In following years, he served as an independent consultant for Southwest Florida College creating software for postsecondary institutions, guiding institutions through licensure and accreditation and representing educational institutions and other entities in activities in other countries.

As a FAPSC board member, Jim held all officer positions, and in doing so, proved himself to be a most effective and tireless advocate for career education.

He served as the appointed representative of the career college sector on the Articulation Coordinating Council where he spoke out and spoke up for the sector—insuring equitable participation and representation.

He was a member of the Transition Taskforce for Florida’s Commissioner of Education; chairman, Special Committee Reviewing Board Operations, Florida State Board of Independent Colleges and Universities; appointed by the governor to the Florida State Board of Independent College and Universities where he served as board chair and rules writer; and served on the State Postsecondary Review Entity Standards Committee. This is in no way a complete list of his service at the state level.

Nationally, in support of the sector, Jim served as commission chair, evaluator, standards and criteria author, and advisor to ACICS. He was also a board member and advocate for the Career College Association (now CECU).

Jim’s most significant contributions to the sector were as an outspoken, driven, and articulate voice and leader. He spent weeks in Tallahassee working to ensure our students and the schools they chose were assured of access and fairness.

Jim passed away in 2013. His advocacy and leadership appeared to know no bounds. He is remembered as very persuasive, logical, and universally, as KIND.
