On Thursday, December 14, the Florida Supreme Court dismissed a petition by the League of Women Voters of Florida.

At issue is the authority of Governor Scott to appoint three new justices. Three of Florida's supreme court Justices - Fred Lewis, Barbara Pariente, and Peggy Quince are scheduled to retire because of mandatory retirement requirements.

Although Scott likely intends to name replacements, he has not yet done so. The high court declared, "Because the issue presented is not ripe for consideration, we dismiss the petition."

The full opinion is available here.
